Well here we go again. As the first in a series we worked on last year is due to be aired on Monday we were out yesterday starting another. This will be about the Brecon Beacons, featuring Iolo Williams. Day one of filming featured a couple of impressive water falls in the Beacons: the heavy rainfall over the previous 24 hours resulted in plenty of water rushing over the falls. There were a couple of grey wagtails and dippers around, but it became very dark as the day wore on and heavy rain also moved in. Add that to the spray from the falls and every lens cloth I had was dripping wet by the end of the day. From a wildlife cameraman point of view it was quiet, but that’s to be expected at this time of the year on a gloomy day like this.
For anyone interested in being a wildlife cameraman as a career they should expect lots of days like this and learn to enjoy them. Top tip: hot tea or coffee can work miracles for the spirit of a crew!
